Based on EvolveWare's S2T® Technology, Legacy Modernizer's extraction engine breaks down the source code into standard XML patterns using a knowledgebase and a pattern matching and pattern hatching mechanism. This is unlike other parsing engines that depend on a source language's syntax to break down code into a recognizable format. The uniqueness of this revolutionary technology allows 100% abstraction of any source language into XML patterns, leading to full discovery and documentation of a source code's data model, program logic and business rules.

Once the extracted information is transferred to Legacy Modernizer's review console, the user may review:

The data model in RDBMS format as SQL/DDL scripts
The program logic in pseudo code format
The business rules in text and flowchart format

Dynamically this console may also be used to:

Generate program linkage diagrams
Generate business rule linkage diagrams
Annotate business rules
Replace variable names in business rules with verbiage that is descriptive of the functionality within the rules

During processing, the extraction engine also inventories the source and compiles a series of statistical reports that relate to the code processed. These reports allow the user to determine whether all the required code was processed and the extraction completed. In case of an incomplete extraction, Legacy Rejuvenator® guides the user through a support process that allows any missing XML patterns to be inserted and take the extraction to completion.

An important functionality of the Legacy Modernizer is its ability to export the extracted business rules into MS Word in RTF format and to Graph Modeling Language editors to be saved in .pdf format or as images.
